NYU Buenos Aires is located in Argentina's vibrant capital. The curriculum focuses on Latin American studies and Spanish language instruction. Subject courses are taught both in English and Spanish, and language courses are offered at all levels. The academic center is located in a stunning, Tudor-style building in Barrio Norte, an upscale neighborhood in the beautiful and friendly Argentine capital.
Students select from courses that adhere to the high standards of NYU; faculty members are leaders in their fields and include influential politicians, world economists, recognized artists, and foremost scholars and researchers. A full-time professional staff plans excursions and activities to help students become fully engaged with the history and traditions of daily Argentine life.
The curriculum focuses on Latin American studies with courses available in subject areas such as politics, history, literature, and economics as well as in the Spanish language. Most courses include field trips to significant sites in the city, and faculty members introduce students to leading professionals in their fields. Trips to museums, art galleries, concerts, and theatre performances as well as special guest lectures are an essential part of course workfor example, journalism students may visit the editorial offices of Argentina's largest daily newspaper, Clarin; listen to lectures given by government officials; or speak to children of the desaparecidos (activists who went missing during a period of Argentine history known as the Dirty War). All students explore the birthplace of the tango in the historic neighborhoods of San Telmo and La Boca. NYU Buenos Aires also encourages students to conduct volunteer work in their areas of interest.
