Living with a host family in the Paris area
This experience will allow the participant to share the everyday life of French students. He/she will live with a host family located in the South area of Paris (about 40 km far from Paris city centre).
French host families welcome the student as an additional member of the family. They will provide participants with encouragement and support. Students should be prepared to participate in, and to adapt to, the family life and to help with various tasks around the house. The family and our local representative are ready to help students to settle in. Students should not hesitate to talk to the family to explain their feelings. Nacel France is always ready to talk. Host families get compensation.
School
Foreign students will attend classes with the French students, as if she/he was a French. The Principal who manages the French college - or the Proviseur who manages the French lycee - decides which is the best class and level for the participant, taking into consideration the school organization, the students school transcripts and the French level; a student cannot insist on Nacel for any changes of class or school.
The participant may spend the stay in a class lower than his/her level in his/her home country - no equivalences are guaranteed by Nacel.
The subjects to be studied will depend on the class to which students are allocated. The most important subjects are: Mathematics, French, 1st foreign language (generally English), 2nd foreign language (Spanish or German), Physics, Biology, History, Geography, Arts and Sport. In France, students spend a lot of time at school. Generally speaking, they start school at 8 am and finish at 5 pm or 6 pm, there is a 1-hour break at lunchtime. Sometimes, there are classes on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. French students do not have too much time to practise sports during the week. This is generally done on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Most of the students have the opportunity to practise some sports as it can be arranged with the host family at the beginning of the stay. During the week, most of the students have their lunch at school.
