Social Gerontology is designed to train specialists in social gerontology qualified to carry out scientific research, to identify on the highly professional level the problems of elderly persons (and the issues of relatives careing for them), to find and implement the optimal solutions, to search for the resources, to make and implement the means of ageing policy, to create and evaluate social projects and programmes in local and state institutions, basing on the concepts of contemporary social gerontology.
Social Gerontology is an interdisciplinary Master's study Programme that falls into four interrelated and logically grounded units. The first of these addresses general and specialized social work knowledge applicable to gerontological social work. The second one provides the deeper understanding of the ageing individual and is useful for face-to-face social work with the elderly persons. The third one focuses on the
population ageing and ageing policy. It develops skills useful for social workers who are planning, organizing and evaluating social services for the elderly persons. A special attention in Social Gerontology Master's study Programme is devoted to the situation in European Countries. The final unit develops student's research skills.
Social Gerontology Master's study Programme meets the needs of both the EU and non-EU member states' students, with a consideration of rapid social changes in Europe and increasing globalization process. The programme is targeted to the students who have have successfully completed undergraduate university studies in social sciences, humanities sciences or biomedical sciences.
