  • Description

    Experience a meaningful volunteering in Nepal! Volunteers spend up to 6 hours a day at the school. They will typically assist teachers in preparing lessons for the children and also help to run the classes. Deaf children are particularly keen to learn English and so this is often the main role of a volunteer at the school. Depending on the volunteers level of experience they may provide the school with advice on new teaching methods and introduce creative activities for the children.

    Volunteers can teach disabled children about health and Hygiene:
    1. How to Brush teeth
    2. How to Wash hand
    3. Volunteers can have their own plan and ideas.

    They Like to learn English so Volunteers can teach English to them. Volunteers can teach them games, songs, Rhythms, dance and etc. Based on experience and skills, volunteers may also provide vocational training, income generating programs and introduce the use of technology in the children's learning.

    Objectives
    1. To secure teaching/learning and rehabilitation opportunities (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language therapy) for students with special needs throughout the education system
    2. To provide vocational training for disabled people.
    3. To see disabled children on their feet as happy, useful, integrated members of the society.
    4. To plan, implement and monitor Special Education programmes.

    Activities
    - The development of partnerships with schools for mainstreaming and resource help for children with special needs.
    - Educational assessment of underachievers.
    assistance in establishing Resource Room in regular schools.
    - Supervision and training of resource teachers in regular schools
    - In-service training for teachers in special and regular schools.
    - Promotion of Special Education Intervention across the curriculum.
    - Staff development exercises in schools upon requests.

  • Highlights

    According to the population censes 2001, there is a population of 23,151,423 in Nepal and among them 79, 88,612 are in the Central Region. There has not been any census, which may indicate the exact number of people with disabilities (PWDs) in Nepal. It is estimated that more than 10 out of 100 people in Nepal are suffering from one or another form of disability, which means nearly 2.4 - 2.7 million people in the country are disabled. Out of the 10%, more than 5% have a physical disability and 3% have autism, an intellectual or learning disability and are living in/below poverty line. Within the last decade, the rate of the increase in disability has been high due to conflict and insurgency as well as accident.

    In Nepal very few organizations provide education and rehabilitation services therefore access to physical rehabilitation services for PWDs is limited. Majority of the PWDs in Nepal are illiterate, poor, unskilled and untrained. They are ignorant of their inherent rights and are obliged to depend upon their family members. Deprived of opportunities, they have remained economically inactive and are usually considered the burden of the family, the society and the nation. They have very limited access to employment, entertainment and services provided by the state because barely one percent of the PWDs are educated.Therefore We decided to open a Special School for Disabled and Rehabilitation Centre.The main objective of the center was to provide quality service and education to allthe privileged and unpriviledge disabled children.

    We, Multi Explorer Nepal, have been helping many helpless children and women. Over the past few years we have been providing food and clothing for 50 orphan children along with educational sponsorship. Through our women's development project, 30 women in Kathmandu are presently receiving day to day literacy classes along with skill training. We are proud to say that we have recently also opened a disabled centre with the capacity for 25 children with services in special education, physiotherapy and speech therapy. Along with our own health centre, we have affiliation with several hospitals throughout Nepal.We look forward to improve our quality and increase our projects or program for making better Nepal and for better future
