Where dining is divine and the night's rest heavenly...

No imposing entrance or red carpet awaits you here. Not a clue can tell you from street side that behind the centuries-old-frontage on Oude Houtlei lies an ancient monastery: PoortAckere. An oasis of peace, hidden away from the bustle of the city. Once inside you find yourself in a former nunnery whose history dates back as far as to 1278. The building and its interior that turned their back on the world for so many centuries now reveals its secrets to a few favoured guests. The atmosphere is serene and restful, as befits an age-old neogothic building. Yet PoortAckere retains its unique character, as a medieval monastery with its own history.

Location

CAR
Coming from Calais – Oostende – Brugge (E40)
- Take the exit Gent West (n° 13) and follow the indications ‘Gent Centrum’ via the yellow parking route (direction Sint-michiels parking). You will arrive in the ‘Hoogstraat’.
- Take the last street on your right side, which is ‘Oude Houtlei’.
- PoortAckere Monasterium is situated halfway on your right side.

Coming from Brussel (E40) or Antwerpen (E17)
Follow the yellow indications “parkeerroute sint-michiels” - Centrum Hotel/Monasterium PoortAckere
- Take the exit Gent Centrum and then choose "alle richtingen" (all directions). You will drive down the viaduct to end up at a traffic light cross road. Sort left(!) and turn left.
-You are now on the city centre ring road of Ghent. At the 5th traffic lights, you turn right (Nieuwe Wandeling). Now you will see a long stretched park on your left hand side. At the second traffic lights, go right again ("Hoogstraat") and keep following.
-Take the third street on the right (at the corner of bar Walter), you are now in Oude Houtlei.
-150 metres down the street you will see appear the hotel on your right side at number 56. Choose the first (backside) or second (frontside) parking with automaticly opening barriers and see you at reception!

BY FOOT
From the train station you look for Koningin Elisabethlaan and go from there on straight ahead all the time (changes of name in this particular order: Kortrijksesteenweg – Kortrijksepoortstraat –
Nederkouter – Veldstraat. Half way the main shopping street Veldstraat(corner of Caron cigar shop), you go left and cross the water to proceed to Zwarte Zusterstraat, at the T-junction, you turn right. Welcome to Oude Houtlei, you should be able to see the hotel accross the street from here!

BY TRAMLINE
Line 21-22 : get of at the stop “Annonciadenstraat” or “Gebroeders Van de Veldestraat”. At the crossing point of the Annonciadenstraat and the Gebroeders Van de Veldestraat, you take the street in between the two of them = Oude Houtlei.

Line 1: get off at “Korenmarkt”, cross the Sint-Michielsbrug (bridge) and go straight through, the third street on your left is the Oude Houtlei. NOTE : This line is temporarily deviated because of public ongoing works!!

TAXI
Leaving the train station through the main entrance you will see Koningin Maria Hendrikaplein. Turn right and you will find cabs waiting for you.
