Impact Abroad is located in Kunming, Yunnan's Cosmopolitan Capital and China's Most Livable City.
Capital of China's most diverse province - Kunming being the provincial capital has a very visible presence of cultures and ethnicity.
Warm Winters, Cool Summers - Winter days are in the 50-60s F and summer days in the 70-80s F.
Least Polluted City in China - Kunming's air quality is the best of all large cities in China according to UN's climate monitors.
* Broaden Your Horizon and Discover the Caring Self Within You
Empower Children for a Better Future - As a volunteer you can help provide informal education and vocational skills that disadvantaged children need to get jobs and make a better future for themselves. Meeting people from other countries can help foster in them a curiosity about the world outside China.
Have an Enriching Cultural Experience - Working with people from minority groups will be a culturally enriching experience as these groups are rich in their own traditional culture even though they haven't been able to benefit from the economic development that has affected the rest of the nation.
Come Face to Face With Chinese Language and Culture - Working directly with the local community, you will have an excellent opportunity to learn about a new culture and to practice Mandarin with native speakers if you already speak a little or to learn a few key phrases if you have never studied the language before.
* During 3-day Weekends, Explore Yunnan and Its Neighbors:
- Yunnan's Ethnic Diversity - Yunnan is China's most ethnically diverse province with 25 unique ethnicities, from Thais to Tibetans.
- Yunnan's Natural Diversity - Yunnan has an astounding variety of climates, from tropical rain forests to Himalayan mountains.
- Nearby Parts of China - Sichuan, Guilin, and Tibet
- Nearby Southeast Asian countries - Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia and Laos
* Impact Abroad's Unprecedented Value
We Charge No Placement Fees - Our volunteer placements and services are completely FREE of charge. Our staff will also help you arrange your stay. However, your travel and daily living expenses are not covered by us.
We Help You Plan Your Trip to China - We can help you get your visa, book your flights, provide you in-country orientation and arrange your housing in Kunming.
One of the benefits of volunteering with Impact Abroad is that you will have plenty of free time to explore Yunnan province's diverse cultural history and natural beauty. Yunnan Province is home to half of the ethnic groups in China, 26 in total. These include Thai people in the tropical South, Tibetans in the Northwest, and Han Chinese in the central plains. With Impact Abroad you can explore all of these regions and even take trips to the neighboring provinces of Tibet, Guizhou, Guangxi and Sichuan. You can even venture below Yunnan's border to the Southeast Asian nations of Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia.
With Impact Abroad you can simultaneously make a difference by helping disadvantaged people and have the adventure of a lifetime.
Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and age groups. No qualifications necessary other than a good attitude and a desire to work with us to improve the lives of disadvantaged people (and Children in particular) that live in China's Yunnan province.
