Description

The ancient Inca city Machu Picchu is situated behind the Sacred Valley and is hidden in the mountain tops of the Andes. A visit to Machu Picchu is for most travellers in Peru the highlight of their trip. You can visit Machu Picchu in an organized 2 or 4 days trek or in a 1 or 2 days tour.

When you don't have a lot of time in Cusco, you can visit Machu Picchu in just one day. You start with a train ride from Cusco to Aguas Caliente, which lies on the banks of the Urubamba river and at the feet of the Machu Picchu mountain. From Aguas Calientes we will take the bus climbing up to Machu Picchu. There you will have a guided tour of 2 or 3 hours by an English speaking guide and after the tour you have some free time to climb Waynu Picchu, to visit the temple of the moon or to take pictures. We take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and from there the train to Cusco.

Highlights

There are 3 types of trains on the railway between Cusco and Aguas Calientes. The Backpackers express is the most economic option. The Vistadome train has windows in the roof, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of mountains and valleys. The most luxurious train is the Hiram Bingham train, named after the explorer of Machu Picchu in 1911.
