  • Description

Midwest is a 5-week, 130 hour program with 10 hours of practice teaching. This provides you with much more training and practice than the average TEFL program. Graduates have found teaching jobs in over 45 countries.

Midwest also has enthusiastic instructors who have taught English in the US and around the globe. Our main instructors have master's degrees in ESL and years of professional teaching experience. We use a hands-on approach with fun, dynamic activities. This gives you the chance to experience and try out new strategies and techniques in a supportive learning atmosphere, while gaining both skills and confidence as a new teacher.

Midwest's TEFL certificate program is offered by WESLI (Wisconsin English as a Second Language Institute), an accredited institution. WESLI, established in 1981, teaches English to over 200 international students from Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa. As a trainee, you will have the valuable opportunity to observe and teach actual classes of nonnative speakers, while meeting students from around the world. Being part of an ESL school makes Midwest unique among teacher training facilities and allows you to immerse yourself in an international environment right here in the US.

Midwest was started in 1999 with the idea that anyone with an appropriate level of English skills and the desire to teach English can do so, given professional, practical training. Trainees have ranged in age from 20 to 65 and have had many different goals, such as learning a new language overseas, spicing up retirement, trying out teaching as a new career, and empowering students in developing nations. Both native and nonnative speakers of English have graduated from Midwest and have found jobs teaching overseas. Although most trainees start the course with little or no teaching experience, practicing teachers also take the course in order to gain new skills and certification. Accommodations are made for trainees that are differently-abled.

Job placement assistance is given in the form of a workshop, one-on-one resume writing/editing, interviewing practice and a job resource room. Through our ESL school, we have personal contacts with over 140 schools overseas.

Midwest Teacher Training Program is located in the heart of the Midwest. We are convenient to get to, an easy drive from Chicago, Milwaukee, or Minneapolis. Midwest Teacher Training Program is in the center of Madison, Wisconsin, a progressive university town with a stimulating learning environment.
