Miami University: Intensive Chinese in Tianjin

Location

China: Tianjin

Description

Complete immersion in Chinese language and culture, earn up to 9 Miami credits. Complete one year of Chinese coursework in six weeks plus 1 or 3 credits in culture, travel to Beijing (Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace), and Zhangjiajie. No previous Chinese required.

The host institution, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, has one of the longest established programs teaching Chinese to foreign students in China. Its main campus is situated in the heart of the city, ideal for students to integrate into local society. Located 110 kilometers from Beijing, a half-hour ride by the bullet train, Tianjin is the third largest city in China, with an area of 11,000 square kilometers and a population of 12 million residents. The people of Tianjin are well known for their hospitality, generosity and colorful customs. The city is the industrial and commercial center in the region and boasts the biggest comprehensive port in north China. In 2006 the central government approved an ambitious plan to build Tianjin Binhai New Area--about four times bigger than Shanghai's futuristic Pudong New Area--into a third economic powerhouse after Shenzhen and Pudong of Shanghai.
