Mente Argentina has designed a summer program for students who want to study abroad over the summer and receive academic credit or simply learn Spanish in a university atmosphere while visiting Buenos Aires. Our program can accommodate students at various Spanish levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

Spanish conversation, grammar and culture will all be covered during the classes. Students will have also have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, included in the program, which allow them to practice their Spanish while getting to know the city in an exciting way.

Mente Argentina's Summer Spanish Program is held at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, UBA, which is a public university located in a bustling area of downtown Buenos Aires near the Obelisk and the National Congress. UBA is the largest and most well known university in Argentina. It is also one of the most prestigious and respected educational institutions in all of Latin America. The Foreign Language Department of UBA offers Spanish programs for foreign students, as well as other foreign language programs for Argentine students. Every year, more than 20,000 students study foreign languages there.

UBA also allows for easy credit transmission to your home university due to UBA's respected reputation. Most students get 3 - 4 credits for each four week Spanish course that is completed. Official transcripts are issued by the Universidad de Buenos Aires Spanish Language Department.

If you are in college and would like to get academic credit at your home institution, you will have to pass all the Spanish courses with at least a 'C' grade or above in order to apply for credit for your courses. Because university standards and policies vary, please talk to your advisor or study abroad coordinator and arrange this before you arrive.

Students also have the option to combine their Spanish classes with a range of fun short programs, including:

Tango: Argentina is the birthplace of Tango and our program allows you to learn this passionate and beautiful dance through group classes, individual instruction and excursions to local milongas (Tango dancehalls) to dance with locals. Classes are four times a week and can be taken for one month or two weeks. The courses start every week, and are part of a flexible schedule that can adapt to fit each participants plans.

Culinary Arts: Argentina's cuisine differs from Americas in its prevalent European influences. During the course, students will create Argentinean and international dishes with modern cooking techniques. Students will also be studying presentation and flavor pairing. Classes are held three times a week with a combination of group instruction and individual lessons taught by recognized Argentine professors.

Photography: If you enjoy exploring new places and have always wanted to develop your photography skills, this program is perfect for you. The class meets three times per week and combines studio photography with activities around the city in some of the most beautiful, and often locals only, locations. You'll not only learn about photography but you'll also get to discover the charm of Buenos Aires in a fun and entertaining way.

Wine: Argentina is known for its great wine, especially Malbec and in recent years, Argentine wines have earned a worldwide reputation for excellence. The courses meet three times per week with a combination of group instruction and individual lessons taught by recognized Argentine professors and sommeliers. The course seeks to provide students a comprehensive introduction to the world of wine. The knowledge gained during the course can be applied by professionals who work in the industry or by amateurs who want to learn about selecting and pairing quality wines.

Bartending: If you enjoy nightlife, or just being the life of the party, we offer a course that allows you to turn your passion for partying into a career. This program seeks to provide participants with the skills to manage any type of bar, whether in a hotel, pub, nightclub, classic or modern cafe, themed bar, or a bar at a special event. Classes are held three times a week and upon completion you will become a certified bartender.

DJ: Argentina's immense popularity as a nightlife destination in the last decade has made Buenos Aires the capital of electronic music in South America. DJs compete at the greatest electronic music clubs and venues in the world. Courses are offered three times per week at the best electronic music school in Latin America. Students will learn how to mix with CDs and vinyl and most importantly, how to assemble sets in the DJ box.

Sushi: Mente Argentina's Sushi Program is designed for both beginners and those who wish to broaden their culinary knowledge and become more experienced sushi chefs. Classes are given three times a week and both individual and small group classes are available. The regular program lasts one month and the intensive program lasts two weeks. You will learn to make all varieties of sushi as well as wok dishes and other Asian style dishes as well as how to prepare all of the different ingredients and components used to create different varieties of sushi.

Scuba: This program offers you the opportunity to learn how to scuba dive and earn a PADI International Scuba Certification from the worlds most popular scuba certifying institution. The program includes scuba courses, practice diving, and a certification dive trip to Colonia, Uruguay. This certification will be valid for the rest of your life and will allow you to dive and hire diving equipment anywhere in the world.

Soccer: The Soccer Clinic includes a personalized training program with sports experts, coaches, personal trainers, nutritionists and physical therapists. The training will cover a range of techniques and strategies, and has been designed to help you improve both your physical shape and technical skills. You will also attend the best games for local and international championships which will be held during your stay. Additionally, you will have a chance to tour the two most important Argentine football stadiums and a football museum.

Golf: With a large variety of golf courses through the country, Argentina is the Latin American golf capital. This clinic is designed for both novice golfers who want to begin playing Golf as well as experienced players who want to improve their skills. Classes are held three times a week, depending on the participants level of skill, at the best driving ranges and golf courses in Buenos Aires.

TEFL/TESOL: The TEFL/TESOL certification enables you to teach English in a variety of settings abroad and the certificate earned is the most widely recognized teaching credential of its kind: University of Cambridge TESOL/TEFL Certificate. Mente Argentina's TESOL/TEFL Certification program in Buenos Aires is designed to provide both 140 hours of course instruction and 12 hours of teaching practice.

Ski and Snowboarding: The program consists of a personalized clinic for those who wish to learn how to ski or snowboard for the first time at a top resort and also visit Buenos Aires. In Bariloche, Patagonia at the Cerro Catedral Alta Patagonia Ski Center, where you will work on your customized training program with a professional instructor.
All short programs can be done in conjunction with Spanish classes or can be done before or after the Summer Spanish Program. The short programs vary in length and Mente Argentina will work to customize a program especially for you according to your interests and time constraints.

Highlights

* Academic Credits:
Normally, those students who attend a summer program in Argentina through Mente Argentina get between 3-4 academic credits for each four week class completed, although the total credits will depend on the number of classes you wish to attend. At the end of the program, the student will receive a transcript directly from the university they attended.

Mente Argentina Program Coordinators are available 24 hours a day to assist students with all aspects of their study abroad experience, even before you actually get here!
