Mente Argentina: Emergency Housing Construction Position

Location

Argentina: Buenos Aires

Description

Volunteer with a well-known aid organization that constructs emergency shelter for families living in extreme poverty. Working hands-on with a team of other dedicated youth volunteers, you will conduct field visits to impoverished community settlements to observe firsthand the way the residents live. Later, meet with the same volunteer team to assess which families are most deserving of an emergency housing intervention in the form of a newly constructed shelter. Volunteers not only physically build the much-needed homes, but also learn the ins and outs of multiple levels of the construction process. Volunteers will become familiarized with the logistics and chain of supply required to build the houses, giving participants a more profound understanding of what it takes to execute major projects at a prominent Latin American NGO. An ideal choice for volunteers who are passionate about concrete solutions to fighting poverty (no pun intended) and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty while they learn about NGO management.

The Mente Argentina Volunteer Program fee covers all our services including the unique volunteer position in Buenos Aires, safe and secure accommodation in the best neighborhoods in Buenos Aires (Palermo, Barrio Norte, Recoleta), a wide range of cultural immersion activities, and personal advice and support services throughout your entire stay.

Whether you are a beginner or have been studying Spanish for years, being surrounded by the language every day will help you take your Spanish to a new level. If you would like to jump start your ability to speak and understand Spanish, the Mente Argentina Volunteer Program offers an optional introductory Spanish course during your first weeks in Argentina (Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm). This is an opportunity to refresh your memory and learn common Argentine expressions as well as the specific vocabulary that you will need for your interactions as a volunteer.

Mente Argentina's volunteers have the opportunity to choose to work in a variety of different fields, including educating children from under-privileged backgrounds, HIV/AIDS counseling, and medical/health volunteering. Through our program, volunteers will have a chance to form a deep connection to the people of Buenos Aires and contribute to the improvement of life in Argentina!

Why Volunteer in Buenos Aires? Why Should I Choose Mente Argentina?
