MAXIMO NIVEL Reviews

The in country staff are amazing and so helpful (with everything!!)!! Every question I had they answered! The placements were wonderful and you can see the real impact Maximo is having! I did the holiday program and was able to see a little bit of everything as they have you in a few placements due to different organizations availability over the holidays. I highly recommend it!

I absolutely loved my time in Antigua, Guatemala. It was such an incredible experience for numerous reasons. Firstly, I think as a nurse I was able to be very helpful in the clinic where I was placed. The people were lovely, and I think the work I did was really appreciated and helpful. Not only was my placement wonderful, but I met the most incredible people while volunteering. They are friends that I will have for a lifetime. I also still had time to explore many places in Guatemala and just enjoy life in Antigua. I loved my experience and Maximo Nivel and their staff were a big part of that. Thank you so much for everything! I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in having a unique volunteer experience.

I had so much fun in Peru volunteering in the Madre Teresa orphanage. I met wonderful people and felt so good about the work I did. I would go back in a heartbeat, and I hope to continue communicating with my friends that I made. I highly recommend Maximo Nivel as an organization, and the program coordinators there are truly amazing people who go out of their way to help in any way that they can!
My gap year in Cusco
Submitted by Lily M - San Francisco United States | January 12, 2017
I spent three months in Cusco during my gap year volunteering at an after school program for children in a poor neighborhood. The establishment provided students ages 4-15 with help from teachers and access to computers with wifi. I went not knowing what to expect in terms of teaching English classes. It was hard to organize formal classes because children's main priority was finishing homework. This meant the classes had to be entertaining to capture their attention or sometimes they simply did not have time to devote to learning English. However I would help out in whatever capacity I could - lending a hand with English homework, reading with them, helping the staff with things that needed to be done around the building. All this to say that although I wasn't doing exactly what I had pictured I was still able to form connections with the children and to work with them in a meaningful way - something that was most valuable to me. I would definitely advise keeping an open mind, striving to be flexible and being active in offering to help in whatever capacity you can. If you are able to do that you will no doubt walk away with a meaningful experience to carry with you for the rest of your life.

Playa Junquillal - Verdiazul
Submitted by Casandra - Calgary Canada | January 11, 2017
I got to stay at Playa Junquillal for three weeks. Which was amazing to say the least. But, also hard.
Be prepared for long walks on the beach- at night. Which that could be anywhere from 3 to 7 hrs long. That's depending on the Turtle and how long she takes to lay the Turtle eggs OR if you can find the nest! Be prepared for beach clean ups, going to the garbage dump and sorting. Be prepared to fall in love with the site and the amazing work that the staff do. Be prepared for the joys of walking up to the howlers (monkeys) outside your window in the morning waking you up. Be prepared for making long lasting friends from all over the world. Be prepared for Pura Vida you feel while being there.
But, also be prepared for the sad end when the time has come to say goodbye to the people you have met and to the place you called home.
This is not for the faint of heart. To get the best feel of this trip is to do it solo. Packing only the essentials and going for as long as you can. I can promise you one thing, once you leave you're going to want to come back the very next day.
