  • Description

Live and learn the Spanish language and culture through immersion with the Marquette University Study Center in Madrid. Founded in 1965, this well-established small program offers you and your classmates much personal attention as you immerse yourself in all that this exciting city has to offer. You can enroll for a semester or academic year. After a mandatory 3-credit course during orientation, you will enroll in classes through Reunidas (a consortium of 8 American colleges and universities) and, if you choose, at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Spain). All of your courses will be taught exclusively in Spanish by Spanish faculty. The program arranges homestays for you or you can choose to make your own housing arrangements. Additionally, there are excursions offered each semester.

  • Highlights

You will be considered Complutense students for the duration of your stay and will, therefore, have access to Complutense facilities, events and organizations. We will assist you in integrating with Spaniards through intercambios (language exchanges) with Spanish students learning English. If you participate during fall semester or the academic year, your time in Madrid will begin with approximately two weeks in a Spanish residence hall. The Marquette Study Center's resident director (a member of the Marquette faculty) organizes several social and cultural events in Madrid. Typical events have included an annual Thanksgiving dinner at Botin's (the oldest restaurant in the world), movies, theatre, an evening of tapas and a flamenco demonstration. The resident director will take you on two one-day and two overnight excursions to a variety of regions and cultures in Spain. Past trips have included Asturias, Barcelona, Cordoba, La Coruna, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Sevilla and Toledo.
