HIV / AIDS, extreme poverty, and an overall lack of opportunities have led to an overwhelming amount of orphans in need. Both the children and the administration itself would be grateful to any volunteer's kind enough to lend their time. This is a great way to share your love and compassion with children who need it the most.
Volunteers will teach English at the orphanage (or local school) for 4-5 hours per day. Those who do not wish to teach may care for the students who are not able to attend school. All volunteers will be responsible for the general well-being of the children, and will oversee brushing teeth, bathing, and other general hygiene practices. In the evening, you will organize activities for the children's free time, such as games, singing and dancing, and art classes. Participants also monitor each child's academic practice and help with homework each night. In addition, volunteers will be responsible for assisting with administrative tasks - like cooking and gardening.
It is helpful for the volunteers to learn Kiswahili/Maasai language. To aid in this, our program tailors a one week Language and Cultural Immersion Program to learn the basic language, and Tanzanian culture and lifestyle prior to starting volunteer work.
The LAC, which is optional, runs during the first week of your program and includes guided excursions to local places of interest.
There are no specific qualification needed to join this project/program in Tanzania.
