Located in the heart of Tuscany, Florence stands out as a cultural, historical, and academic center in Italy that effortlessly maintains its small-town charm. In fact, students will find that they are able to walk to any major area in roughly twenty minutes. With the rolling waters of the Arno River bisecting the city, each terracotta rooftop and cobblestone street tells a story by blending the old city's traditional structures with modern shops, designer boutiques, and art galleries. Around every corner of this enchanting city, students will discover Italian culture at its finest.
In Florence, LPI offers students a 3-week program in July in which students study the Italian language, and an additional elective course of their choice taught in English such as Food, Culture & Society, Introduction to Digital Photography, Florence Sketchbook and Introduction to Art History. There are approximately 20 students per class. Students will be in classes with U.S. and other international students. Courses are usually held during the mornings Monday through Thursday at The Florence University of the Arts (FUA) located in the historic Palazzo Doni and Palazzo Guicciardini-Strozzi in the city center.
All LPI students will live in a residence hall and will be accommodated in single or double rooms. Students will share bathroom, kitchen and laundry room facilities. The on-site LPI directors will also live in the residence hall providing the necessary supervision. Participants will be provided three meals per day (except on LPI excursion days) for the official duration of the program. The location of the residence hall will allow students to experience the city of Florence and the Italian lifestyle firsthand.

LPI, the high school division of International Studies Abroad (ISA) was established in 1989 to provide an academically challenging and culturally thorough study abroad program for U.S. high school students. Based in Austin, Texas, LPI reaches out to provide study abroad opportunities to students from across the United States. LPI works closely with fully-accredited foreign universities and the LPI resident staff in each program location in order to provide cultural activities, tutoring services, language exchanges, volunteer opportunities, and numerous possibilities for improving language performance. Through LPI, students are able to equip themselves with a working knowledge of a foreign language, earn college credit, experience another culture and explore the area around their program city through cultural excursions.
