LPI Study Abroad for College Credit in Angers, France

Location

France: Angers

Description

Located in western France, Angers is considered one of the gems of the Loire Valley. It is situated on the Maine River in the heart of one of the largest forested regions of France. Angers is famous for its reputation as the most flowered city in Europe, with 1,300 acres of parks and public gardens. Angers takes its name from the Andes Royal Family, whose most notable architectural contribution is the Duke’s 13th-century, 17-tower castle. The city’s rich history is also present in the famous Apocalypse Tapestry, housed in the Duke’s Castle and believed to be the oldest and largest tapestry in the world. The city’s two universities and large student population also lend Angers a vibrant and youthful quality.

Highlights

After a multi-day orientation excursion in Paris, students venture to Angers to start the LPI French Language and Culture program at the Catholic University of the West. Classes are taught by university professors in French and attended by LPI students as well as other international students.

Cultural activities such as museum visits and cooking classes are organized each week of the program and are designed to help students experience Angers. Weekend excursions provide students the opportunity to observe and learn about the culture and history of neighboring cities and surrounding areas.
