Volunteering in Albania

I had never visited Albania before. In fact, the country had never been on my radar of travel destinations. But I'm so glad I thought outside of the box and took a volunteer opportunity there!
I was in Boga, Albania, a little town of about 400 people situated in the northern part by the Albanian Alps. To say it was picturesque is an understatement. It was an absolutely beautiful place! Small and remote, it was a nice chance to see people living a totally sustainable lifestyle. It was a window into a lifestyle I knew nothing about. The people were warm and friendly and open to having someone visit their small town where they don't get many visitors.
I taught English in the little schoolhouse there for about 3 weeks. The kids were enthusiastic and I was really impressed that they came during the summer after their farm chores. They taught me a lot about Albania and I was able to visit other areas farther north.
I'm glad I went to see this little corner of the world and its people.
