Description

This 3 week summer program combines a cultural experience with the satisfaction of volunteering in India. On the first weekend of the volunteer period, trips to Pushkar (the Holy City)and Jaipur (the Pink City) are arranged. The travel portion includes journeying to the states of Rajasthan (Land of the Kings) and Himachal Pradesh (the Queen of the Hills). Also included are visits to Agra, Dharamshala, McLeodGanj, the Golden Temple at Amritsar and spending three days on a Himalayan Trekking adventure. Following their travels, volunteers can choose to extend their stay and continue with volunteer work in Dharamshala or Jaipur.

* Volunteers are accommodated either with a host family or in a guesthouse. In either case, one can expect to share a bathroom. Three meals are provided daily.

* On the day after arrival at the project destination, orientation for takes place, to provide an understanding of the entire volunteer program, of Indian history, culture and traditions. There is an introduction to Hindi, an explanation of the rules and regulations, as well as a tour of the work location and of the local surroundings, including the local market.

* The working week runs from Monday to Friday, with a total of between 20-25 hours worked. Free time in the evenings and weekends is plentiful, and might be spent visiting the countryside, reading, playing sports, as well as planning and going on excursions to local places of interest. On Friday evenings, volunteers in India often organise a get-together to mark the end of the working week.
