State-owned buildings in Peru are often underfunded and, as a result, in a bad state-of-repair. Taking part in a construction project is often the most rewarding option for shorter volunteer in Peru placements.
You will be volunteering in Peru at a construction project in or around Cusco. Construction projects include renovation work (painting, plastering and repairs) and full construction (making adobe bricks, masonry, laying tile and plumbing). These projects generally take place at small rural schools, community centres and orphanages. All construction projects are led by a professional Spanish speaking foreman who is experienced in guiding and training international volunteers in Peru.
Note: Construction volunteers in Peru are strongly encouraged to bring work gloves, work boots, safety glasses and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. Also note that clothes should keep you warm during cold or rainy mornings and cool during sunny afternoons. Dressing in layers and being prepared for the elements is important.
Please note that this program has a USD 5 per day surcharge to cover the costs of equipment and materials.
* Love Volunteers is a not-for-profit organisation that provides fun, rewarding, safe and affordable volunteering opportunities in developing countries around the world.
* Since Love Volunteers is a not-for-profit organization, it is one of the most affordable ways to help out in a developing country while being immersed in the local culture.
* You will stay in either a volunteer house or with a local Peruvian family while volunteering in Cusco. The volunteer house is filled first, but you can guarantee a place with a local family by paying an additional USD 35 (Euro 25) per week. The volunteer house has many of the benefits of staying with a family, but with less rules and no curfew.
* Upon your arrival in Peru you will spend a day finding out about your host country, city and family. Our local team will tell you everything you need to know about the local customs, safety, rules and expectations and, of course, about your volunteering in Peru experience. You'll be given a walking tour of the area in and around our partner's facilities and get a chance to meet other volunteers and plan your "extra-curricular" activities while in Peru..
* You can choose to volunteer in Peru at the weekend if you want, or otherwise you can visit other cities etc in Peru. Or just relax at home or in a cafe. Long weekends can be easily arranged locally to allow trips further afield (Machu Picchu being the most popular in this part of the world).
- Volunteers in Peru must be at least 18 years old at the start of the placements (unless accompanied by an adult).
- Minimal Spanish
No matter what your level of Spanish we recommend you take the very affordable Spanish courses offered by our team locally.

Wow! Such a humbling and incredible journey. It really put things in perspective for me. Love Volunteers and their local partner did a great job. If you're heading to Tanzania say 'Hello' from me.
