Among the reasons for the urgent need for improvement are: land conflicts which lead to poor and vulnerable Cambodians being forcefully evicted from their homes; poor roads and inadequate bridges hindering travel and transportation, and an insufficiency of water and irrigation systems. With a shortage of funds targeted at these projects, volunteers' assistance and fresh ideas are greatly appreciated.
Just some of the contributions volunteers can make are the following: community and town planning, in particular new towns for the evicted Cambodians; working on water supply projects; reviewing government policies and guidelines, and conducting training sessions or workshops for students or staff.

* Since Love Volunteers is a not-for-profit organization, it is one of the most affordable ways to help out in a developing country while being immersed in the local culture.
* Volunteers are accommodated either with a host family or in a guesthouse. In either case, one can expect to share a bathroom. Three meals are provided daily.
* Volunteers receive a one-day orientation course which covers aspects of Cambodia's history and culture and includes a city tour, an introduction to the Khmer Language and pointers regarding safety.
* The working week lasts from Monday to Friday with the number of hours per day varying between three and six. There is some flexibility for volunteers to arrange time off, if negotiated in advance. This allows the volunteer time for travel and to experience the country.

Wow! Such a humbling and incredible journey. It really put things in perspective for me. Love Volunteers and their local partner did a great job. If you're heading to Tanzania say 'Hello' from me.
