B.A. in Fine Arts: Studio Art

Italy

Location
Italy: Florence

  • Description

As the birthplace of modern humanism, naturalistic arts and scientific inquiry, Florence was the cradle of Renaissance civilization, the place where Dante, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci changed forever the way we see the world. Florence is the ideal destination for those interested in studying studio art. The degree program offers unparalleled access to museums, festivals and artists in the richest art environment in Europe.

The B.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration in studio art is a four-year program designed to combine a broad-based training in the visual arts with a traditional liberal arts education. After foundation training, each student specializes in one of several tracks: art restoration, digital media, drawing, graphic design, lithography, painting, printmaking or photography.

Why study Studio Art at Marist-LdM?
Art programs at Marist-LdM stimulate and develop the potential individual creativity of students, providing them with not only the technical skills but also the conceptual insight necessary for the development of artistic talent. Marist-LdM gives its students the tools necessary for entering the competitive labor market. Art restoration courses have restored paintings and sculptures by some of the greatest artistic masters of the Renaissance like Donatello and Michelangelo. Sculpture students spend time living and working in Carrara learning traditional techniques. Photography students develop their visual skills through immersion in the exquisite beauties of the Tuscan countryside. Additionally, LdM provides its students with library and computing facilities, a wide range of student clubs and societies and organized cultural events, field trips and site visits.

Upon completion of this program students will receive a bachelor's degree from Marist College. All coursework and related activities are conducted exclusively at the LdM sites in Italy. Students enrolled in the degree program have unparalleled access to all of LdM's facilities, events, festivals, and services, as well as additional services provided by Marist College, including an e-database for research. Transfer students from educational institutions worldwide and students who have completed LdM Certificate Programs are eligible to apply for direct entry to the second or third year of the program. • Lorenzo de' Medici's Mission Statement

Lorenzo de' Medici is committed to helping students realize their own potential, providing a quality education that will enable them to interact successfully with the community worldwide. The School aims to excite and enable students to experience a first class educational and social environment which enlarges their minds, stimulates their talent, and emphasizes the importance of values and the pursuit of knowledge. We also seek to develop real, multi-disciplinary projects in our classes that involve as many of our departments as possible. In this way, we prepare our students to face the actual challenges of their respective fields. Students obtain truly relevant work-related experience by collaborating with colleagues both inside and outside of their specific areas of interest. Then, the results of this collaboration are presented externally for public appreciation and expert evaluation.

I had always heard great things about LdM but I think you just have to experience first-hand how different it is from other schools. All of the advisors and professors seem genuinely interested in ...
