For my volunteer trip this July, I spent a great deal of time researching and contacting organizations to assure the best fit, and Links to Africa was the most responsive, helpful and accommodating of the bunch. Both friendly and professional, Links skillfully organized everything from my volunteer placement at the hospital to my safaris around Kenya. From the moment I arrived in Nairobi I felt safe, warmly welcomed by my host family and valued as a part of the community. My experience in Kenya brought rewards far beyond my expectations - and I give a lot of credit to Links for making my time there so fulfilling. I had fun, gained a great deal relevant medical experience and built relationships with staff, other volunteers and my host family that I hope will stand the test of time. Most importantly, in the end I felt like I contributed something meaningful and learned a lot about myself. Thank you Links!
When I first started looking for a volunteer program abroad, I found so many of them and didn't really know which one to pick, but then I saw links to Africa and I knew exactly where i wanted to spend my summer. Links to Africa is a great program and the program coordinator is a wonderful person!! I went to Kenya and Volunteered for about two weeks at Melchizedek hospital, those two weeks were the most rewarding, and unforgettable experience. At the hospital, I worked in the lab, the lab technicians were very friendly and they taught me how to run tests like urinalysis, widal tests, malaria test and I even learned how to "bleed" a patient, which is basically taking blood from a patient to do a full blood count (haemogram) test. Links to Africa is definitely a great program and the person I worked with made feel very welcomed to the surrounding. The program offers great opportunity to students who wants to help other people and also learn something valuable in the hospital. I really had a great time in Kenya and when my two weeks were up, I didn't want to leave. The people I met were the most wonderful people and I miss taking our tea break with Mandazis every morning! Thanks to Links to Africa, this was the best summer I have had in a very Long time!
