Key Objective

To manage the activities of Lifestart Foundation in Vietnam to ensure Lifestart Foundation is able to help those living in disadvantaged situations to become self-sufficient. This involves overseeing operations in Vietnam, capacity building local staff, fundraising and promoting Lifestart Foundation. A crucial requirement is flexibility in meeting the needs of the Lifestart Foundation as they arise. The candidate should spend their time in Lifestart Foundation working towards the goal of making their role redundant by the end of their tenure.

Local Conditions

The successful candidate will work from a shared air-conditioned office but will be required to travel on a daily basis to meet participants and staff members working at the Lifestart Foundation Workshop around 1km from the office. Both are close to the centre of Hoi An.

Hoi An is a small town with a focus on tourism 30km away from the nearest airport in Da Nang City in central Vietnam.

Qualifications

Required Capabilities

* High level of communication and interpersonal skills
* Excellent organisational and problem solving skills
* Proficient computer skills (including MS Word, MS Excel)
* Excellent written and spoken English

* Ability to work independently on own initiative
* Desire to help others to help themselves
* Diplomatic in difficult situations and able to work well under pressure
* Pragmatic in approach
* Hardworking and committed
* Confident in own abilities but also confident enough to ask for help when needed
* Ability to respond fairly in emotional situations without becoming overly emotionally involved or making rash decisions
* Ability to obtain satisfaction directly from the role without the need for external encouragement
* Ability to manage many different personalities and ages of volunteers patiently
* Ability to work in hot and sometimes uncomfortable conditions (up to 45 degrees in the hot season and reasonably constant rain during the rainy season)
* Comfortable with riding (or learning to ride) a bicycle or motorbike. The living allowance would not cover the cost of taxis and public transport is not available.

Desirable Capabilities

* Knowledge of or experience in fundraising
* Ability to write grant proposals
* Ability to assist others with IT issues
* Design and/or photography skills
* Experience of using the Adobe suite including Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator
* Experience of HTML or Wordpress for website updates
* Experience of project management
* Written and spoken Vietnamese

Lifestart Foundation's Mission Statement

The foundation aims to help disadvantaged Vietnamese people, and their families, to become self-sufficient. Supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, the Lifestart Foundation applies a holistic approach to helping those in need through proven working programs to effect a generational change. The team works to create sustainable and on-going income streams for the disadvantaged via education and vocational training. Those with complex disabilities are given improved opportunities through the Lifestart Foundation Workshop and the Lifestart Foundation Free Disability Community Centre. Assistance also comes in the form of safe accommodation, transportation, medical support and dental treatment.
