The PERT (Professional Emergency Response Team) Diver and Professional PERT Instructor are the two brand new scuba diving internships offered by Mermaids Career Development Center, Pattaya, Thailand.

The PSAI Emergency Response Diving courses have been gaining a lot of attention from hardy divers that wish to enter the world of service diving. The PERT programs are designed by fire fighters, police and military and qualify the successful diver to train with firefighter and police response departments and become active members of their Public Safety Diving (PSD / PSDiver) teams.

ERD - Emergency Response Diving can be a full-time dive career in the forces/services or part-time diving job on call with your local fire or police department when the call arises.

Highlights

The training is intensive and PERT LEVEL 1 consists of:

- Scene assessment, information gathering, set up and diagramming.
- Scene safety supervision.
- Interviewing witnesses.
- Equipment configurations.
- Full-Face Mask (FFM) diving practices.
- Use of Tethers, tenders and communications.
- Stress tests with extreme entanglement exercises. Air-depletion in extreme conditions including entanglement in zero visibility.
- Body and object recovery in extreme conditions and zero visibility.

The Public Safety Divers (PSD) entering this program are expected to display a very solid mastery of all content and diving practices in PERT LEVEL 1. The PERT LEVEL 2 reinforces all skills and develops and ensures mastery of the skills in the additional following areas:
- Heavy object rigging and recovery.
- Night time recovery operations.
- Incident command and control.
- Diver assignment and accountability.
- Interviewing techniques and information gathering (including photographing the scene).

Mermaids Dive has designed 2 PERT internships. PERT Internship 1 is for the diver wishing to enter the realm of response diving. PERT Internship 2 is for the professional scuba diver that wishes not only to be trained in emergency response dive practices and skills but also wishes to teach Public Safety Divers. With Asia's only resident PERT Instructor Trainer, Steve Blumenthal as our MD and Course Director - professional level courses are trained on request.

*NEW* PERT Emergency Response Diver Internship 1:

Taking the PERT Internship 1 will train you to the highest possible recreational scuba diving certification being the MSD (Master Scuba Diver). You will have a minimum of 60 dives, be trained in self rescue and rescue of other divers. You'll have a solid knowledge and skill base in 5 PADI specialty areas and be trained Professional Emergency Response Team Level 2 allowing entrance into Public Safety Diver (PSD) teams. Become an ERD (Emergency Response Diver) with the following package:

- ALL Dive Courses - PADI Open Water, PADI Advanced Diver course, EFR Emergency First Response - Medical) and Rescue Diver Program.
- Master Scuba Diver certification with 5 PADI Specialty courses - I Search and Recovery, Night Diver, PADI Full-Face Mask Diver, Wreck Diver and Navigation Diver.
- PERT Level 1 PSDiver / Response Diver.
- PERT Level 2 PSDiver / Response Diver.
- National Geographic Diver status.
- FULL set of scuba diving equipment (to keep) - complete set including Suunto Dive Computer.
- 2 months accommodation. (Thai style condos - self contained).
- ALL Manuals and training aids to keep.
- All Fees Paid.
- Un-limited Scuba Diving (minimum 60 dives).

The PERT Internship 2 takes the diver through Master Scuba Diver on to the professional scuba diving platform. The diver will be a competent divemaster and then trained on to PADI OWSI Dive Instructor level. Instructor ratings in PERT Level 1 and Level 2 will allow this diver to teach PERT to students wishing to become Public Safety Divers (PSD). Become an PADI OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) ERD-I (Emergency Response Diver - Instructor) with the following package:

- ALL Dive Courses - PADI Open Water, PADI Advanced Diver course, EFR Emergency First Response - Medical) and Rescue Diver Program. Professional courses include PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and then FULL OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor).
- Master Scuba Diver certification with 5 PADI Specialty courses - I Search and Recovery, Night Diver, PADI Full-Face Mask Diver, Wreck Diver and Navigation Diver.
- PERT Level 1 PSDiver / Response Diver.
- PERT Level 2 PSDiver / Response Diver.
- PERT - Instructor certification allowing the diver to teach PERT Level 1 & 2.
- National Geographic Diver status.
- FULL set of scuba diving equipment (to keep) - complete set including Suunto Dive Computer.
- 6 months accommodation. (Thai style condos - self contained).
- Un-limited scuba diving (minimum 200 dives).
- ALL fees paid.
- All manuals and training aids to keep.

Qualifications

There are no formal pre-requisite qualifications required for training in scuba diving or public safety diving. A strong team player mindset is essential.
