  • Description

Take your football to the next level. Challenge your body with semi-professional athletes and feed your spirit working with children in the sport you love.

Football is the most important sport in Ecuador as in many other Latin American countries. Football is a passion; a sport for all ages and it is everywhere! The football program in Quito focuses on training and coaching. Volunteers will be able to train with a semi-professional team - Universidad Catolica and at the same time to assist a football coach at a children's soccer school. This will allow volunteers to help the children to develop their football skills while also improving the volunteer's aptitude and ability for this game. In addition, during their stay, volunteers will attend a professional football match between teams from our national league.

  • Highlights

    Volunteer Role:

At Universidad Catolica, participants' will train and play with the semi professional athletes. They will be part of all the physical trainings; these include drills, fitness and strategic techniques.

At the children's soccer school, volunteers will be assisting the head coaches. Volunteers will be part of all practice sessions, helping with warm up routines, fitness work and drills. You will be assigned specific duties by the coach you will be working alongside with such as drills to improve skills and techniques.

At the Elementary school, Volunteers will be helping the school sports teacher. Their roll will be to interact with kids from first to seventh grade. Not only they will be playing football with them, also they will be doing any kind of physical activity , in order to stimulate kids health and sports development.

    Location:

La Universidad Catolica practices in the fields of the University located in Quito.

The children's soccer school and the Elementary school, are located in La Vicentina - this is a residential neighborhood east from Quito.

    Accommodations and Meals:

Volunteers will stay at a host family. Host families are located in good residential neighborhoods in Quito. Home stays have been selected after an application process to make sure they have everything participants need. Breakfast and dinner is included in the host family's home.

In your free time you can enjoy the following activities:

    * Enjoy the Old Town-churches, government, squares and shopping. The historic old town of Colonial Quito is the jewel in Ecuador's crown. The city was designated the first UNESCO World Heritage City in 1978 in recognition of the importance of its colonial architecture (ahead of cities like Bath and Venice). Quito is the city that has the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America. The monasteries of San Francisco and Santo Domingo, and the Church and Jesuit College of La Compania, with their rich interiors, are pure examples of the 'Baroque school of Quito', which is a fusion of Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Flemish and indigenous art.

    * Visit the "Middle of the World City" where the monument that divides the Northern Hemisphere from the Southern is located. It was built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. The Ethnographic Museum can also be visited.

    * You can't miss the Teleferico, this is a cable car that takes passengers up the flanks of Pichincha Volcano to the top of Cruz Loma. The view form here is spectacular.
