  • Description

    Projects:

    * Community projects are with children and young people in a variety of homes and institutions including orphanages. The ability to relate with children is essential as you will be involved in assisting with the day-to-day practical care of the children, playing games, offering vital friendship and affection, and providing them with a forum to practice their conversational English. Examples of some of the community placements are childrens' home with children aged six to sixteen, or an orphanage for very young children awaiting adoption. There are also opportunities for working with street children at a center in Mexico City.

    * Teaching English involve working as a classroom assistant or one-on-one with students to improve their skill and confidence in the English language. Native English speakers are highly valued in Mexico. Students vary in age from primary levels right through to university.

Locations: Tulancingo, Puebla, Guadalajara, Tepoztlan and surrounding areas.

  • Highlights

From the colonial architecture of Mexico City to the ancient Mayan and Aztec empires, situated in Central America, Mexico is a landscape of cultural difference and historical narrative.

Travel Opportunities: Before, during or after school holidays.

  • Qualifications

Due to the remote location of many of the Mexico placements, volunteers will need to be fairly resilient, sympathetic and independent. You may find yourself helping with extra-curricular activities, so an interest in art/crafts, music and/or sport would be useful. A decent level of conversational Spanish is also essential before departure, although you'll certainly improve your language skills while in the country!

    * Basic Spanish (intermediate Spanish is desirable for Community placements).
