  • Description

The projects have volunteers assisting with the teaching of spoken English. Some projects have the added challenge of being schools for the blind and partially sighted, and for those with special needs. Most schools have a link staff member who looks after the volunteers in and out of class. Students may range from ages 6 to 21, and private lessons may be with adults.

In all the schools there is an expectation that volunteers will get involved in activities outside the classroom; musical ability, drama skills, sporting prowess, and artistic flair are particularly valued.

Working hours vary between projects; though will often correspond with full school days. A small amount of pocket money is paid in Poland, and there is often the opportunity to give private language lessons for extra cash.

  • Highlights

Poland fuses modern living with the grand theatrical and musical traditions of the past and although it left the Soviet Block in 1989, it is yet to reach its full potential and currently suffers high unemployment. Lattitude volunteers play an important role in improving the English language skills of students and a select number of these projects allow you to assist in schools for the blind.

Poland offers volunteers the freedom to develop imaginative lesson plans that encourage students to practice their English while incorporating fun facts about Canada. The ability to adapt, think creatively and embrace a new culture will allow you to experience the wonderful traditions and customs that Poland has to offer.

  • Qualifications

Volunteers should be versatile, adaptable, and above averagely self-sufficient. All volunteers must be able to speak and write grammatical English clearly. Knowledge of the Polish language is not required for these projects, but most volunteers manage to learn and understand enough Polish to travel and shop successfully.
