  • Description

Teaching English projects involve teaching spoken English in Middle Schools, (11-18 years old) Vocational Schools, (16-18 years old) Teachers Colleges, (18-22 years old) and Medical College, (18-22 years old). Volunteers can use their varied experience and skills to support their teaching; skills in drama, art, sport and music are extremely useful.

Volunteers will generally work between 12 and 15 hours per week. An abundance of common sense and a sense of humor are vital for projects in China. Also important is a good standard of literacy in written English, a clear and articulate speaking voice, and a record of reliability, responsibility and punctuality - careful lesson preparation and good timekeeping are very much the Chinese style.

Volunteers will have to adapt to the attitudes, values, and customs of a very unfamiliar culture, a good amount of physical and psychological resilience is required. Volunteers in China must also maintain a cared for appearance, extreme courtesy, good manners, and sensitivity.

  • Highlights

The cities where our volunteers work are generally in medium sized Chinese cities, not large cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou. Most cities are in the range of 250 000 400 000 in terms of population. The Lattitude volunteers will in some cases be the only Western residents in the city.

Lattitude has projects in seven provinces Zheijang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Qingdao, Yunnan, Guangxi and Sichuan.
