Description

Our school is located on a main street, in the center of Barcelona in "El Barrio Gothico" beside the Cathedral and is only a 5 minute walk from the well known "Las Ramblas" district which is a wonderful, vibrant part of the city where street vendors and performers vie for your attention.

The Port district of the city is only a 10-minute walk from the school and the nearest beach is just 15 minutes away by public transport. The school is in the perfect area of the city for easy access to tapas bars, galleries, stores, boutiques and music shops.

Our school is housed in a beautiful, newly decorated and renovated building that is said to be the first building to have been erected on the street. Our school occupies the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building and has a really comfortable atmosphere with modern furniture and new computers.

School facilities include: 7 spacious and bright classrooms with air conditioning, a charming break / social room where students can purchase beverages and relax during or after class, a large TV room and free access to computers with high speed internet/e-mail.

Host family: (shared double rooms) with 3 meals daily.
The family provides 3 meals daily, with a packed lunch that is usually eaten with the other students and teachers at the school. The families are normally located between 10-20 minutes travelling distance (normally by local public transit) from the school and town center. Curfew: 23.00 if there are no accompanied evening activities with school staff.

Students will share rooms with another student of the same sex studying on the summer program

Important Note:
We would like to point out that while supervision is provided by the host family, the students will travel to/from the school every day with a roommate or on their own, normally by public transit.

On the first day of school, the student is provided with detailed written directions to the school, by the host family. If there are two students staying with one host family, they usually travel to/from school together every day.

Highlights

The city of Barcelona offers a wide variety of colourful and intricate architecture created by the world famous Antoni Gaudí. The Gothic Neighbourhood, and the pedestrian street "Las Ramblas" make this city a traveller's and art lover's paradise. Its history is beautifully reflected in the famous "Barrio Gótico", the old town district known as the Gothic Quarter for the treasures house of Gothic monuments found there.

It is the site of both historic monuments and modern institutions. It is also the mecca of Spain for modern art and theatre lovers. Students can admire the work of Picasso, Miró and visit the famous "Sagrada Familia" while participating in one of the many organized cultural activities.

Barcelona hosts many festivals during the summer months. These include the Grec Festival at the Theatre Grec, classical music festivals at the Palau de la Música at the end of September, and the very important "Mercé" celebration, which commemorates the patron saint of the city.
