Cultural Note: Russia is a country with a basic infrastructure and power or hot water failures are not uncommon. However, justly famous Russian hospitality will play its part in overcoming most of these problems. We usually select families without any foreign language knowledge (English speaking Russians are desperate for some English conversation). However, if a participant feels uneasy about this approach, we will find them a host family where English is spoken. Our experience shows that even absolute beginners will be able to communicate after the first few days.

After class and weekend activities:

Enjoy social and cultural outings during the week with other students from the school, at least two activities per week or organized, such as theater visits (opera/drama/ballet), walk Red Square and the Kremlin, visit Assumption Cathedral and St Basil's Cathedral. The Metro is a cheap and convenient means of traveling around the city and you will notice many stations are sumptuously decorated with marble, glittering chandeliers and works of art.

Excursions could include: Star City, located just outside of Moscow, this is a cosmonaut training complex which is open to the public. Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) the former country residence of the Russian emperors or a boat tour on the Moskva River.
