  • Description

We value the time you are willing to give. There are no program fees to volunteer with La Esperanza Granada. There is no registration fee. We ask each volunteer to make a 20 USD contribution to administration costs in order to continue using all donations directly for our projects and programs.

La Esperanza Granada is always seeking pre-school and primary school assistants to work in the schools located in the very poor areas on the outskirts of Granada. As a volunteer, you will help young children (kindergarten through 6th grade) often working one-on-one to stimulate and develop their interest in learning. In groups, we also hold after school classes in sport, arts and crafts, etc. to encourage children to continue their education.

Volunteers work 5-7 hours per day, four to five days per week. We normally ask that you stay a minimum of 8 weeks, though this can vary at certain times of the year. It may depend on the projects you will be helping with, your level of Spanish, your previous experience and our current needs. We welcome long term volunteers, and often have volunteers who stay 6 months and longer. We also provide inexpensive volunteer housing or can arrange for homestays if you prefer.

La Esperanza Granada is a free-of-charge volunteer organization which assists local communities to improve the quality of life through education. Our focus is on children's education. By providing opportunities and resources for the long term educational advancement and community development of Nicaraguan pueblos, we hope to brighten the future of the children and empower the people of the barrios to improve their current living conditions, and break the cycle of poverty. Our motto is to give a hand up, not a hand out.
