I love volunteering at Kyabirwa School. Moses the programme manager and the volunteer host is so good. He really looks after you and his family including the new baby are lovely. It's not luxury but it's clean and you get your own room not a Dorm! The staff appreciate your help, the kids are fun and their English is so much better than it was when I first went there and that's due to their exposure to all the English speaking volunteers. That alone is a great help to them. There's other social life available just a mile away at Bujagali so you have the advantage of living in beautiful rural surroundings and going out there or to Jinja for some other fun. They also need people to go and teach skills to the local women and any men who will come along so that they can earn money in different ways. So crafts, bee keeping whatever you can think of that they can realistically do in that environment. There have been one or two volunteers who did this but more are needed. Most people's thinking doesn't get past paper beads and Uganda will sink under the weight of those already produced there!
Another important point to say is that in some volunteer placements in Africa you get asked for more and more money. But at this one you don't. It's a fundamental principle there that you pay the advertised fee on arrival and unless you ask for something extra that's it. No one will pester or bully you for more money.
So, I hope this review helps some people make the decision to get to Kyabirwa School to help them. Personally, I don't think they will regret it.
