Knight's Rest is a lovely old building in Shanklin, Isle of Wight, England, which offers bed and breakfast accommodation for adults only throughout the year. It is run by Jane Groves and her family.
Knight's Rest is ideal for those wanting a quiet relaxing holiday or short break. Short stays of one or two nights are accommodated. It is also ideal for businessmen who seek peace and quiet within their working environment.
Wireless internet access is provided free of charge in all the rooms. Most have flat screen digital TVs with built-in DVD's and Freeview. There is a complimentary DVD library .
For those on business, a complete breakfast can be ordered from as early as 0700, and early check-ins and late check-outs are accommodated.
For those not on business, a more leisurely breakfast is recommended from 0800 to 0930 when a large variety of freshly prepared food is on offer. See our breakfast menu for more details.
There is a large off-road car park at the front, with plenty of parking space for cars, motorcycles and bicycles.
Passengers traveling on foot or bicycle
Shanklin is only 3 hours by train from London Waterloo, including the ferry journey from Portsmouth Harbour and a connecting train from Ryde to Shanklin. We will be happy to pick you up from Shanklin station with advanced notice. Trains run every half an hour from Waterloo to Portsmouth and the Wightlink catamaran to the island meets the train at Portsmouth Harbour station.
From Southampton Red Funnel's High Speed Ferry has a crossing to West Cowes. There are buses from Cowes to Shanklin or with prior arrangement we will be happy to offer a pick-up service.
From Southsea there is a Hovercraft that lands at Ryde Esplanade, next to the bus/train station where you can get the number 7 or 7a bus straight to Shanklin or catch the train at Ryde Esplanade station. If prefered you can arrange to be picked up by us.
Passengers traveling by car
There are several car ferries that sail from the mainland to the Isle of Wight. Red Funnel Ferries operate from Southampton to East Cowes.
There are two Wightlink car ferries. One sails from Lymington to Yarmouth and the other sails from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.
Shanklin is only a short drive from any of the terminals.
