  • Description

    Volunteers will take part in a range of activities in the day to day operation of an exciting community based conservation project in a unique coastal area of Tanzania that protects the environment whilst providing tangible benefits to the local community.

    Activities range from Black and White Colobus Monkey habituation and observation, endangered Zanj Elephant Shrew capture and study, Yellow Baboon habituation and observation, development of bird, mammal and plant lists, research into local community land use patterns and alternative activities for wildlife poachers and charcoal producers and potentially other research and data collection that helps build the validity of protecting this important and vulnerable area.

  • Qualifications

    No qualifications required. A passion for Africa is essential. Volunteers must have an interest in wildlife and wild areas. They must show enthusiasm for wildlife observation and have an open and questioning mind. They must be able to adapt to a different cultural context and be able to live in a team environment, get on with different types of people and be adaptable to changing circumstances. Physical disability should not be a barrier to application.

  • Program Fees Include:

    Full board accommodation including all meals and drinking water and one non-water drink (soda, beer, wine) per day. It also includes full laundry service, services of an interpreter, the use of a mountain bike and all activities in the conservation area. Also includes a village development levy and all local taxes.
    The cost does not include international travel costs, travel to Kisampa from Dar es Salaam. It does not include health insurance or purchases of a personal nature.
