King’s College London Pre-University Summer School: 29 July - 9 August 2013

The Programme
The King's College London Pre-University Summer School is a high quality and intensive academic programme open to high-school students (16-18 years) looking for a unique educational programme. It provides students with the opportunity to experience university life, with a combination of stimulating academic classes and a lively and varied social programme. A combination of on- and off- campus study, alongside an exciting social events and activities programme will help students prepare for university life as well as offering a chance to meet and study with students from all around the world. Excitingly students will experience two great global capitals because in addition to their London experience they will take part in a fully inclusive weekend trip to Paris.

The programme runs from Monday July 29 - Friday 9 August 2013. Students on the residential programme will be expected to arrive on Sunday 28 July and depart on Saturday 10 August.

Academic Overview
There will be three academic strands available which students can choose to study. All courses will provide a global insight into today's world and will help students prepare for study at leading international universities. All courses are appropriate for students interested in studying at university level:

Global Governance
This course will provide students the tools to determine and debate the most pressing issues facing international global governance today. This course is unique in its comparative study of the history, institutions, policies and theories of governance of the mayor international organisations today. It would be an ideal course for any student interested in studying International Relations or Policies at University level.

Global Health
Global Health, focusing on health and the social, economic, political and cultural forces in the world that shape it, has never been so important. This course will help students gain a better understanding of the importance of healthcare in the wider world, and would benefit to any student interested in studying medicine or healthcare at university level.

Global Leadership
Leaders aren't born, they are made, and this course offers an introduction to the central aspects of that leadership. Students will examine the key challenges global companies face and help develop an excellent understanding of the major approaches companies employ as they seek to dominate complex environments. This course would be ideal for students interested in studying business, politics or social sciences at university level.

Each course is limited to 20 places. This is to ensure a quality academic learning experience. Further information on each academic strand can be found on our website with further details and exact programme details confirmed in due course.

In addition to the academic study, students will benefit from the following sessions:

Careers preparation and coaching; how to maximise potential in today's world.

Personal development sessions; how to grow, develop and make the most of the university experience.

University preparation; how to stand out and shine.

All courses are non-credit bearing but students will be expected to take part in all assessment which is expected will take the form of group exercises, presentations and learning journals. Certificates will be awarded to all students upon successful completion of the Pre-University programme. The final teaching programme will be confirmed in May.
