    Spanish Language Option: All students taking courses in this option must have completed two years of college-level Spanish or the equivalent. All courses will be taught in Spanish and students will be expected to speak Spanish at all times. A variety of courses will be offered, tentatively including Spanish conversation and composition, Spanish culture and civilization, the history of Spanish art, and introductory and advanced courses in Spanish literature. All courses will make use of local and regional resources and will be taught by qualified Spanish faculty and the program director.

    Honors/Humanities Option: For this option, there are no language prerequisites, and honors seminars will be taught in English. Honors seminars will be offered, one in humanities and one in fine arts. Additionally, intensive six-hour language courses will be offered at both beginning (101/102) and intermediate (201/202) levels.

    Note: All students will be required to take a minimum of four regularly-scheduled courses (12 credit hours) and may take five courses (15 credit hours). Qualified students may take courses from both the Spanish Language and Honors/Humanities Options.

    The site of the program, Segovia, is a pleasant provincial capital only 90 minutes from Madrid. For both linguistic and cultural reasons, Segovia, in the heart of Castile, is an ideal location for the study of Spanish language and culture. Segovia's size is likewise ideal for a program of this sort. All areas of the city are easily accessible without a car. Lively and varied cultural activities are available to the students.

    The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages.
