The KIIS program in Salzburg, Austria, offers Music courses in the heart of Austria. Topics range from history to opera workshops to vocal literature. The courses offered by the Institute are designed to take optimal advantage of the cultural surroundings and events in Europe. There is no language prerequisite, but students are strongly encouraged to acquire some conversational German skills prior to the trip. The program lasts five weeks.
Salzburg is renowned as an international and historical music center. While Mozart's birthplace and residence are of particular interest, the city offers a wide range of historical places and cultural events. Salzburg shows evidence of Roman culture and of a dynamic medieval phase. Students have several opportunities to perform and will be selected by audition or at the discretion of the professor. Vocalists also have an opportunity to sing in the Dom Chor at the invitation of the director.

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages. KIIS also seeks to develop new opportunities for international experiences which meet the needs of students, faculty, academic institutions, and community organizations, always taking into consideration the changing times and shifting demands of a global society.
