The program begins and ends in Athens. Here (as in every place we visit) our hotel is centrally located. Classes are held on the hotel's rooftop garden with a magnificent view of the Parthenon. After five nights in Athens, we travel by ferry to the Greek islands: first to the impressive archaeological site on the island of Delos, and then on to the beautiful island of Naxos for an eight-night stay. After a brief return to the mainland, an overnight stay in the port of Piraeus (home of some of the best ancient bronze statues), the group again boards a ferry and travels to Siphnos, an unspoiled island in the Cyclades. The stay here includes a day trip to the neighboring island of Melos, where the "Venus de Milo" was found and Thucydides' famous "Melian dialogue" is set. Students may opt to hike to the ancient gold mines of Siphnos and to take a course in Greek folk dancing.
After a brief stopover in Athens, the group travels by private motor coach to Delphi (with its famous oracle of Apollo), Olympia (home of the Olympic games), and on to the charming seaside town of Nauplion, the first capital of modern Greece. This serves as our base for exploring the Argolid, with excursions to Mycenae (home of the legendary King Agamemnon), Argos, Corinth (where Paul preached), Eleusis (site of the famous mystery cult), and the popular ancient healing theater. The group then visits Athens once more before returning to the U.S.
This KIIS program begins in Athens. After five nights we travel by ferry to the Greek islands. Next we will travel by private motor coach to Delphi, Olympia, and Nauplin. After a brief stopover in Athens, we again board a ferry and travel to Siphnos. We return to Athens before flying back to the US.
Greece provides the ideal setting for learning about the ancient Greeks whose literature, political ideas, philosophy, art and architecture continue to shape our lives. Credit is awarded by Murray State University and is transferred to each student's home institution.

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages. KIIS also seeks to develop new opportunities for international experiences which meet the needs of students, faculty, academic institutions, and community organizations, always taking into consideration the changing times and shifting demands of a global society.
