Location
Austria: Bregenz
Term
Summer
Bregenz is a medium-size city of approximately 30,000 inhabitants rich in natural and cultural beauty. A city of regional importance dating back to the Romans, Bregenz lies just a few miles from the German and Swiss borders and has the advantage of being both on Lake Constance and at the foot of the Alps.
Since 1975, KIIS students have found Bregenz to be an ideal setting for their European stay. It is small enough that they can comfortably get to know both the town and its people. With its small shops, splendid churches, old city, and picturesque setting, it is not hard to imagine why for so many travelers in Bregenz feel like they have a "home in Europe."
Bregenz is centrally located. Using the Eurail Select Youth Pass (included in the program fee) and the extensive European train system, students are only a few hours away from many great European cultural centers such as Zurich, Munich, and Salzburg. From Bregenz students can ride trains to Berlin, Heidelberg, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Venice, Florence, Prague, and many other cities. With most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays free, students have ample opportunity to learn and travel.

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages. KIIS also seeks to develop new opportunities for international experiences which meet the needs of students, faculty, academic institutions, and community organizations, always taking into consideration the changing times and shifting demands of a global society.
