Description

The KIIS Denmark program offers great opportunities for immersion in cultural and learning experiences for students who speak only English. Students will find that most Danes (even in smaller villages) speak some English. In addition, Danes are known for their hospitality, helpfulness to visitors, and love of the outdoors and sports. Students will experience the best of all worlds in Denmark, from the big city excitement of Copenhagan at Tivoli Gardens (the world's oldest amusement park) to the quiet appeal of country lanes in North Jutland. But, no matter if you are in the metropolis of Copenhagen or the sleepy artist community of Skagen, you will be constantly aware of the Danish view of the world that makes Denmark such a remarkable place for summer study.

Highlights

The program begins in Copenhagen, the capital and largest city in Denmark. Students will live and study at the Niels Steensens Gymnasium, located directly across the street from the National Soccer Stadium, for the first two weeks of the program. During the third week of study, students will have the pleasure of staying with Danish families in Brenderup near Odense, the boyhood home of literary genius, Hans Christian Andersen. The fourth and final week of study will be at the Sports School of North Jutland in Bronderslev. All of the courses in the Denmark program have been designed to make use of the cultural and educational benefits that each of these varied cities offers. Students will be able to enjoy surrounding cities at greater length during independent travel weekends.

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages.
