Summer

  • Description

The KIIS summer program in Argentina provides students with an opportunity to explore the landscapes and culture of one of the largest Spanish-speaking countries in the world. Argentina is a country that embodies the richness of the cultures of both South America and Europe. This experience will allow students to experience multiculturalism at its best.

The Argentina program will provide students from varying backgrounds with an interdisciplinary perspective and a deep understanding of the region's environment, geography, and development challenges. As the program is field based, shared accommodations will be in hotels or bed and breakfasts and will facilitate interaction with the local community whenever possible.

  • Highlights

The program is field based and starts in Buenos Aires, one of the world's mega cities (13 million population) and a fascinating urban landscape with all the usual big-city attractions - theaters, art museums, historic mansions, national monuments and many professional soccer teams. The program then heads to the northeast to visit the Mission region and spectacular Iguazu Falls near the border with Brazil and Paraguay. A journey across one of the least visited parts of Argentina - the Chaco - focuses on many environmental challenges facing the country, and continues on to the most indigenous part of the country - the Northwest and the historic colonial city of Salta. From Salta, the program continues down the eastern slopes of the towering Andes mountains to Mendoza, an oasis city in the central western part of Argentina known for its high-quality wine production. Continuing on down the Andean spine, the program heads into Patagonia with visits to German-influenced Bariloche and Neuquen, before ending back in Buenos Aires for the return journey home.
