Kean is the third largest public university in New Jersey, and the largest producer of teachers in the state. Today, the University boasts New Jerseys first comprehensive program dedicated to the development of a new generation of mathematics, science and technology teachers and researchersthe New Jersey Center for Science Technology and Mathematics (NJCSTM).
Kean also provides students with access to a very unique BS/MD program leading to a medical degree. Together with Drexel University Medical School and St. Peters Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, this highly competitive undergraduate program guarantees successful students admission to Drexel Med and a residency at St. Peters.
Founded in 1855, Kean University has grown to become one of New Jersey's largest institutions of higher learning. In 1958, Kean moved from Newark to Union and currently occupies over 150 acres in Union and Hillside townships. Under the leadership of President Ronald L. Applbaum, Kean was granted University status on September 26, 1997. While maintaining its significant role in the training of teachers, Kean has become a comprehensive institution offering 40 undergraduate and 21 graduate degree programs serving some 12,000 students. Across four schools and the Nathan Weiss School of Graduate Studies, Kean's academic programs range from philosophy to public administration to management systems analysis.
