  • Description

Visions that spring to mind when you think of South America are rainforests overflowing with endless biodiversity, colourful vibrant carnivals, the soaring peaks of the Andes and of course the beautiful Caribbean coast containing the second largest barrier reef in the world. Culture and history are also prominent features with the Mayan ruins in Mexico and Belize, the Incas in Peru and of course the on-going culture and traditions of the native Indians in Bolivia.

As a citadel of harmony and freedom, Central America is pointed towards a very auspicious level in its history, one that's prepared to take a total advantage of the new representation, which has been considered as a dynamic tool to bolster human enrichment and community development.

We have some long established projects in Central and South America and it is a fantastic place to volunteer with Kaya. We have a full array of projects from health and nutrition research, building projects, environmental and wildlife projects in national parks, and many community and teaching projects within poor Latin American communities.

The quality and sustainability of our programs are very important to us. We want you to have the most fulfilling and memorable time as possible, and be part of something that is going to last into future generations. Each country coordinator is there to make sure your time in your program runs smoothly. All in-country coordinators are English speaking and are there to ensure you have all the information and resources for the best placement.

  • Highlights

    Sandboarding on Huacachina

Sandboarding is a fast-growing activity around the globe with strong roots in Peru. This is one of the best locations in the world for sandboarding as Peru boasts the largest sand dune in the world, Cerro Blanco, which stands at 2070m. Flying down the slopes with tremendous speed you are guaranteed an adrenaline rush and a thrilling experience.

    Mount Chimborazo

Mount Chimborazo is an inactive volcano and is the highest peak in Ecuador at 20,565 ft. It is also the farthest point on the planet from the Earth's core. It is a day's climb to the summit from base camp and the awesome towering ice-capped peak is a major incentive to reach the summit.

The Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats

This is the largest salt flat in the world covering an area of 10,582km2. It holds around 10 billion tons of salt and half of the world's lithium. Its vastness is unbelievable as it stretches off into the horizon and touches the sky.

    Track Jaguars at Cockscomb Basin

The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best undisturbed nature centres in the country and easily one of the most beautiful with 600-1000 Jaguars prowling the land. Get involved in mapping and distribution research to help protect Jaguars and their prey.

    Learn to Surf

Costa Rica has some of the best surfing anywhere in the world, with fantastic warm tropical water surfing. Surf the beach breaks, reef breaks, point breaks and river mouth breaks on the Pacific or Caribbean side of the country. Whether you're a beginner or a pro there is a wave for everyone.

    Veracruz River Rafting

Veracruz, located on the central gulf coast of Mexico, is a world-famous location for river rafting. There are 40 rivers in Veracruz with many originating from the volcanic mountains in the area. The best whitewater rivers are Pescados, Actopan, Antigua and Filobobos, with rapids ranging from class 2 to class 5.
