  • Description

By volunteering in Nepal you will see a sharp contrast between some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world and some of the poorest people in the world. Through our volunteer projects we help to facilitate sustainable development for disadvantaged, marginalised, and poorly educated members of society by utilizing local resources and by providing them with the education and skills they need to empower themselves to be self-sufficient. Our volunteer projects aim to reach out to all areas of society that are disadvantaged or discriminated against. They include a program with a very holistic approach to helping Tibetan refugees and other Himalayan minorities in which you can get involved by helping to improve their literacy and by helping to manage a job database set up specifically for them. You can also help to educate and take care of children with HIV who are often shunned by society; with your support we can help improve these childrens feelings of self-worth and give them the chance to become valued members of society. We provide support to womens rights groups and you can provide valuable assistance to a wide range womens rights projects, from administration support, to working in a womens shelter, to outreach work in rural areas, this project reaches out to women to support them in all aspects of their lives. You may also become involved in teaching English to Monks, teaching school children in under-funded schools, helping small businesses, working in orphanages, and providing medical assistance in a public hospital.

Here are the projects offered by Kaya in Nepal:

    - Journalism Internship
    - Childcare and Education for At-Risk Children
    - Support Children of Women Prisoners
    - Work in a Public Hospital in Nepal
    - Work with Tibetan Refugees and other Himalayan Ethnic Minorities in Nepal

  • Highlights

There are numerous things to see and do around Kathmandu. Among the highlights are the Three Goddesses Temple, Durbar Square, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Mahakala Temple, Pasupatinath and Bodhnath. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy tasting the vast variety of tantalizing food and shopping and bargaining in the labyrinth of small restaurants and shops. Kathmandu is a complete mix of modern and ancient; with its software houses, tuk-tuk taxis buzzing around at breakneck speed, cows roaming the streets freely, mobile phones ringing, Buddhist monks in wingtips shoes, children playing on 500 year-old temples, the smell of incense, and images of Hindu gods everywhere. Sitting watching the world go by should be enough to keep you entertained for hours!
