  • Description

Volunteering in Zambia puts you in the middle of one of the most spectacular environments in the world.
Volunteers provide support in our teaching and community program, medical volunteer program, and sports development program which benefit from your help and from your economic input to the local area.

*Teaching and Community work in Zambia

Volunteer in Zambia on a project working with 6 community schools in the local area where large class numbers and just a small number of teachers means that children struggle and are unable to get help. The schools want to be able to help more, but without funding cannot bring in additional staff. A teaching assistant can provide individual attention where necessary. Outside school hours and in the holidays there are other community initiatives which this project works with including holiday clubs, adult literacy and some group manual work painting and refurbishing areas.

*Medical and Community Work in Zambia

Volunteer in Africa and take part in a medical project based in Zambia working with home visit programs and hospices to provide much needed assistance for understaffed medical facilities. Covering all aspects of medical care and home help, the project will be shaped to the volunteers skills. In the afternoons, volunteers have the option of continuing medical work or taking part in additional community projects which are run in the town.

*Sports Development and Rural Community Work in Zambia

Volunteer in Zambia on our sports development project, which believes that sport is an essential and effective tool to teach about various subjects such as HIV, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Working within schools, with sports teams in the community and as part of a wider community outreach, this project provides the social and physical benefits of sport alongside an important educational tool. Through connections with the community, the project is also involved with various other activities as they arise, such as building and refurbishment as well as setting up farming initiatives.

  • Highlights

    *Zambezi River

The Zambezi passes through six African countries and is Africa's fourth largest river. It's power has carved the spectacular Victoria Falls and the zigzagging Batoka Gorge. What's nice about the Zambezi is it is less developed and has many protected areas along it's banks. The river and the falls lay host to some exciting activities like rafting, abseiling, bungi jumping and river safaris.

    *South Luangwa National Park

This magnificent game reserve contains some of the most intense and concentrated wildlife populations in the world. The Luangwa River is the most intact major river system in Africa and is the life blood of the park. The now famous walking safari originated in this park and is still one of the finest ways to experience this pristine wilderness first hand. The changing seasons add to the Parks richness ranging from dry, bare bushveld in the winter to a lush green wonderland in the summer months. There are 60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species. The only notable exception is the rhino, sadly poached to extinction.

    *Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Animal Orphanage

On the headwaters of the Kafue River, sixty kilometers west of Chingola, lies the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage. The orphanage began when a couple to farm at Chimfunshi in the late seventies. Locally famous for caring for animals, they received in 1983 a young chimpanzee that had been confiscated from Zairean poachers. The Chimpanzee wasnt expected to survive, but they persisted and nursed the animals back to health. If youre in this remote part of north western Zambia, it is well worth a visit. In fact its worth taking a trip here from anywhere in Zambia, such is the privilege of being able to spend time with these fascinating animals. In a world of commercialism, Chimfunshi thrives on unconditional love and absolute dedication.
