  • Description

This is a diverse project but will see you providing care and attention to a number of children from all walks of Zimbabwean life. From care at the orphanages to assisting local teachers in pre and primary schools, your time, effort and enthusiasm will provide a much needed injection of love into many children's lives.

During your time at the orphanage you will be helping to care for babies and younger children and will assist in their feeding and changing. You will also help with games and planned activities and if so inclined, provide some additional manpower with the maintenance of the orphanages, which is a major problem due to a lack of funding. Here you can provide hands on help with repairs, painting and maintenance of the vegetable gardens.

Within the schools you will be helping to make teaching aids for the local teachers and will be assisting them in the children's learning processes. There are so many children desperate for extra homely care and attention and you can provide this through time, stimulation and help with their studies, as well as encouraging them with their social skills to make them finally feel like they are special and important, with a valid place on this earth.

The 3 driving factors behind this project are care, love and support and by bringing these, you can be sure to make an impact in the lives of underprivileged and disabled children in Zimbabwe.

  • Highlights

During your stay at Antelope Park you will have the opportunity to enjoy free weekends to experience all that Zimbabwe has to offer. There are lots of extra trips which you can book up while you are in Zimbabwe so you do need to remember to bring enough cash with you to pay for these trips. Remember that Gweru is quite remote and you will not have the chance to access an ATM once you have arrived at your project location so do bring enough money with you for your entire stay. To get an idea of the excursions available to you here are a few of them with prices (all in USD):

    * 5 day trip to Victoria Falls, via Hwange National Park and Miombo Lodge - USD 475.00 (departs on 19th of each month)
    * Boma restaurant (almost all volunteers choose to do this and love it!) USD 45.00-

    Bungee jump at Victoria Falls

With Victoria Falls as a backdrop, this is arguably the best bungee jump in the world, with a 111 metre plummet towards the Zambezi River. The Victoria Falls Bungee jump has a 100% safety record - and is available 365 days per year. Challenge the limits of the mind and test the edge of fear by leaping off the impressive bridge, with the Falls behind and the mighty Zambezi below.

    Zambezi White Water Rafting

Acclaimed as the wildest one-day whitewater run in the World, the Zambezi River is also recognized by rafting and kayaking enthusiasts as one of the top ten paddling rivers on the planet!

Zimbabwe offers excellent freshwater fishing, the best locations being Lake Kariba (famous for its tigerfish), the Zambezi River above the Victoria Falls (known for its giant catfish), the streams of the Eastern Highlands and the many lakes.
