  • Description

Jolinaiko Eco Tours is a Ghanaian travel agency offering guided individual and group tours in Ghana, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. Our travel agency is based near Accra, the capital of Ghana.

At Jolinaiko Eco Tours we have a great interest, curiosity and pride in our own region with its unique mix of cultures and landscapes and people. We would love to share our passion for West Africa with you, to bring you in contact with its people and to learn you to understand what this region is really about.

Depending on your wishes, we would love to arrange your personally tailored tour, including transportation with our own Landrovers and our experienced drivers and guides. We are very flexible and organise trips for all budgets. Our main aim is to make sure you have an Africa experience you will never forget.

We have a passion for communtiy-based ecotourism, so we like to include ecotourism projects in our destionations. Please see the destinations section on our website for more info and suggestions.

Our clients are independent travellers, couples, small groups like families (often with children), and large groups (20-30+ persons) from all over the world. We communicate in English or French. One of the owners of Jolinaiko is from the Netherlands, so she can communicate in Dutch about travel arrangements.

Jolinaiko also offers volunteering and "work and travel" arrangements on a small scale. The projects are based on mutual learning and have proven to be an extraordinary Africa experience for students, adventurous travellers and others interested in really getting to know our people and culture.

At the moment we are looking for teaching volunteers in Atsiekpoe, near Aveyime/Battor. Aveyime and Battor are small towns on the green banks of the Volta River in the southeastern part of the Volta Region. It is very quiet, surrounded by nature, ricefields and pineapple plantations. Aveyime and Battor can be reached from Accra in about one and a half hour by car. In both towns everything you need is available.

The project involves teaching in the local primary and/or junior secondary school.

Atsiekpoe is a little village on the opposite side of the river from Aveyime. To get to Atsiekpoe from Aveyime, you need to cross the river by local ferry-canoe. The village itself is small-scale, consists largely of mudbrick houses, and has a community square and a fairly large school. At the moment there is no electricity yet (although funds are being raised by the village itself for that), and water is coming from boreholes. Accomodation for volunteers in the school in Atsiekpoe will be provided in Aveyime. You can take the canoe over the river every day.

Teaching experience would be a good start, but interest and motivation are more important than formal qualifications and work experiences.
