Joining Hands, a registered non profit, was established in Nov 2006 with a goal to make volunteering a mass movement. Today our endeavors are focused towards Empowering Lives and Sustaining Livelihoods through credible and accountable volunteering. We are impact focused and facilitate internships/volunteering of individuals from colleges and universities across the world.
The programs emphasizes on providing education not as in typical classroom, but to give a child a wider canvas of exposure in a socio-cultural environment through making education a fun activity and involves workshops on group learning methods, drama, dance, creative arts and other non-traditional methods of learning. Volunteer will teach English, mathematics, science, computer etc. to rural/urban children (age 5 to 16) from low socio-economic and marginalized section of the society. Volunteer can make teaching lessons interesting for these children helping them grasp lessons faster through fun learning techniques.
Our process includes:
- Pre-departure support, including

- International Student handbook for first time travelers to India
- On request- Airport pick up and drop
- Arrangement for appropriate boarding and lodging
- Appropriate match with NGO and personalized suitable project
- Detailed orientation about the sector and what to expect
- Actual placement in NGO
- Customized plan of action for the duration
- Monitoring visits and calls for support
- Feedbacks and effective communication
- Impact assessment of the internship/volunteering
- Certificate and Letter of Appreciation with project details and impact
One could also impart basic computer lessons, to equip them with computer skills and enhance their employability in the job market. Training on MS office internet browsing and other relevant software program (e.g. Corel draw, Photoshop, etc.). This will expose the young children to the use of computers and assist the older children in preparation for entering the work force.
One could also engage in Extracurricular Activities:
- Teach basic skills to promote creativity and inculcate social skills among the children.
- Promote other skill building activities like debates, dramatics, photography, painting, crafts, presentation skills, teach children art and music or work on development of personality.
- Activities will be based on volunteers interests. This helps beneficiaries gain confidence and the courage to showcase their talents and work towards a better future.

Education: Teach Children and Train Teachers
Teaching Children - can be involved in non-formal/ remedial/fun based education for the underprivileged students.
- Introduce new systems and train teachers to improve their teaching style, this will equip them to teach children in accordance with new trends and open more opportunities for children.
- Design and conduct workshops on personality development and skill building
- Review curriculum, research ways to make lessons interesting and draft better teaching material
- Work with school management and study existing system to device better management techniques and skills into the system that will help NGOs impart quality education.
- Volunteer at orphanages or with street kids and engage in fun based learning and activities.
- Spoken English: There is a strong need for developing spoken English skills in the students and teachers.
- Vocational Training: Review content and assist in conducting vocational courses like computers, etc.
Extracurricular Activities:

MIS:
- Update NGO websites and provide other appropriate inputs.
- Develop brochures and promotional materials for the NGO
- Develop software for better management of NGO activities as per need
Graduation, Knowledge of English is a must, knowledge of Hindi is an added advantage.

Students will have to pay for their boarding, lodging and traveling in Delhi. The exact cost would depend on the project, the type of boarding and lodging that you select, the location and the ongoing currency conversion rate.

The placement can be from 4-12 weeks to sometimes even one full year. During this period you can use the learning from college or school and put it in practice. The gained experience will be helpful in your field of study or help you with selecting the industry you want to get into after graduation. Research Internship (graduation) or Dissertation Internship: This is mostly done by students that are in their last year of school/college. In this kind of internship a student does research work mostly to support and get information for their Dissertation or thesis. After Graduation Internships: Some students are interested to take some time off after completing their degree. They are often looking for opportunities to travel or explore a different sector by volunteering or doing internships.
