Location
Italy: Milan

  • Description

    The course offer of IED, Istituto Europeo di Design, includes for the first time a BA Honours in Fashion Design. The BA Fashion Design course at IED is a unique offer which enables students to enrich their study experience by participating at the International Interchange Opportunities (IIO) at IED's locations in Milan and Barcelona.

    Fashion designers create styles, aesthetic concepts suitable for the human body, and combine technique and creativity to design clothing and accessory collections.

    They must be familiar with technologies and the use of new materials and be able to develop clothing designs to cater for market demand.

    (*) For the first time Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) will offer a BA of Honours Fashion Design course in Milan and in Barcelona, subject to validation by Westminster University.

  • Highlights

    Fashion Design BA Honours

    Designers of the future must be able to combine creativity with structure, individual awareness with community culture, creative intuition with the restrictions set by available techniques and materials. These are the reasons why IED has established strong bonds with the business community and conducts periodical workshops and seminars that have the same focus as the academic lectures. The goal of both IED's onsite workshops and those held in the premises of its partner organisations, is to allow our students to measure up to real corporate briefs and concrete projects, in order to supply them with a critical understanding of the professional fashion environment.

    * First Year

    In order to gain confidence in design basics, the first year programme includes theoretical studies as well as practice based modules focused on designing. Students acquire the necessary practical skills to express their creativity and to realise their designs.

    * Second Year

    In the second year studies build upon the knowledge that students have acquired in the previous 2 semesters. Students refine their creative skills and can expand their objectives towards more advanced topics, as for example fashion management. By the end of the second year, students will be able to show a more sophisticated approach to expressing their ideas visually (2D and 3D) as well as verbally.

    * Third Year

    The final year is dedicated to improving work skills and refining personal creativity. The goal is to bring the students practical skills up to professional industry standards. Therefore the fifth and sixth semester are dedicated to the Final Project and to preparing the students for their professional life after IED.
