The program trains fashion designers, specializing in knitting, textile and artisan techniques, new textile technologies, eco-textiles, and the design of prints for fashion, accessories and household goods. Materials are the most accurate indicators of the changes of the times, in terms of fibers, structure and appearance. Textiles are the perfect platform for the most daring experimentation and creativity. Textiles employ extensive research and reclaim traditional techniques, for example in the application of the latest technology to develop new sophisticated, ecological materials, satisfying the new industry demand for sustainable textiles.

The academics of the first year of the Degree in Fashion Design, specializing in Textile, focus on the acquisition of basic design knowledge (color, drawing), culture (the history of art and design) and project methodology, all of which are essential in establishing the foundations of a competent professional capable of working in any of the different fields of design.

The second year's academics probe further into the technical, cultural and project knowledge essential for students to begin focusing on a specialization of their choice.

The academics of the third and fourth years focus on students' specialization as textile fashion professionals, with knowledge of textile design that is an essential determining factor in satisfying the growing demand of companies for knit and print collection designers. The fourth year culminates in a final degree project, which is a reflection of the students training, and a professional job application letter.

This program has been recognized by the Autonomous Government of Madrid and the Spanish National Government as an official Degree in Fashion Design.

IED - Istituto Europeo di Design's Mission Statement

The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) is a design school that attracts students from over 90 different countries to its one and three year/four undergraduate, masters courses and advanced training. The school was born in 1966 to the intuition of its President Francesco Morelli. Through time, it has become a 100% Made in Italy international network of excellence, operating in the fields of training and research, in the disciplines of Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management. The school is spread around twelve cities: (Milan, Turin, Venice,Cagliari, Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing and Shanghai). Every year more than 1800 foreign students enroll in its courses, mainly coming from Europe, Central and South America and East Asia. The school offers more than 500 courses in English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
